Who it is actually for
A birthday countdown works when you already share a pile of ordinary photos. It is a good gift for a girlfriend or boyfriend, a parent who will not ask for anything, or a best friend who already owns everything in the group chat.
Seven days is the length people finish. Fourteen is for someone you write to easily. Thirty-one is a month, and only worth it if you truly have a month of things to say.
- Girlfriend or boyfriend: one photo and two sentences a day, ending on the morning of their birthday.
- Mom or dad: fewer jokes, more specific memories. Name the kitchen, the car, the trip.
- Best friend: the ugly photos are the good ones. Skip the speech.
