Birthday

How to make a digital birthday gift they will actually open

Start from photos, not from a theme

A digital birthday gift fails when it looks like a card generator. Open your camera roll and pull seven pictures you did not post. The train, the bad dinner, the dog, the parking lot. If you cannot find seven, make it five. Empty days feel worse than a short gift.

Write the note beside the photo in the voice you text them in. Two or three sentences. The last day should be the only one that says happy birthday.

Set the date in their timezone

On MakeCountdown you enter their name, the birthday, and the timezone they will wake up in. Day 7 opens at midnight that morning. Earlier days open on the mornings before. You can preview every day while you are still drafting. They cannot.

You can build and preview before you make an account. Publishing the link is the paid step: $9.99 once, for one gift, up to 31 days.

Send the link the way you already talk

Copy the private address into a message. Do not post it. Tell them the first door is already open, or tell them to wait until morning if you built it so that day 1 opens tomorrow. After the birthday, the whole thing stays readable until you delete it.
